“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.” -John 1:5

Grief has been called a gift, a companion of sorts…yet it’s also a type of darkness. A thief. It robs us of the people, places, and things we once had. The future we once hoped for.

And one thing I’ve found during these 30-plus years of grief is that joy and hope don’t magically appear. The light doesn’t seem to come in like lightning to illuminate hope when all we feel is the pain piercing our bodies. Most often, we have to look for it. We must look for the joy, the hope, the light.
